A few years ago someone looking for a business like yours typed something into Google and worked their way down the results. Now a good number of them ask an AI instead.
Which raises the obvious question, which I get asked more than anything else at the moment: how does it pick who it recommends?
I've been working on this properly for about eighteen months, across client sites in medtech, hospitality, energy and education, and this hour is everything I've learned pulled into one place.
What we're covering
You'll come away understanding:
- Why AI keeps recommending the same businesses - it's less mysterious than it looks, and once you see the pattern you can't unsee it!
- Entity data, in plain English - getting this consistent everywhere is the single highest-value thing most small businesses aren't doing.
- Why being mentioned elsewhere matters more than what's on your own site - and the kinds of mentions that count versus the ones that don't.
- The things you can improve on your own site - easy to fix once you know what you're looking for.
- What you need to make sure doesn't slip - and how you can monitor it.
Who this is for
Any business, any sector, any size. I've deliberately kept this one free of a niche, because the underlying principles are the same whether you sell candles or consultancy.
No technical background needed. But if you ARE technical, the structured data and citation sections go deeper than most talks on this.
A bit about these sessions
I'm Lisa and I've been making websites for almost 25 years for people such as BBC Two, Sainsbury's and Aardman. Now I head up 18a, a web development agency based just outside Bristol. 18a was named one of the Nation's Favourite Businesses 2026 by Small Business Saturday, and I'm marking that by running a season of free sessions in the countdown to December.
They're all standalone, they're all free, and they're all built around the idea that you should be able to understand what's happening with the most important asset in your business without having to become a developer first.
